Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention and Response

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is one of the most widespread violations of human rights, affecting millions of individuals, particularly women and girls, across Uganda. At IPHR-Uganda, we are dedicated to combating GBV by providing prevention education, supporting survivors, and fostering a culture of respect and equality. Our programs are designed to reduce the incidence of GBV, protect vulnerable individuals, and provide long-term solutions to break the cycle of violence.

Key Components of Our GBV Program

  1. Prevention and Awareness Campaigns: Education is at the heart of our GBV prevention efforts. Through community outreach, school programs, and media campaigns, we raise awareness about the dangers of GBV, promote gender equality, and challenge harmful cultural norms and practices. We aim to change attitudes, reduce stigma, and empower communities to stand up against violence.
  2. Support for Survivors: Survivors of GBV often face multiple barriers to accessing justice and support. IPHR-Uganda provides comprehensive support services for survivors, including safe spaces, legal aid, psychological counseling, and healthcare services. Our team works with survivors to ensure they receive the necessary resources to heal and rebuild their lives. Additionally, we assist survivors in accessing shelters and protection services.
  3. Strengthening Community and Institutional Responses: In collaboration with local leaders, law enforcement agencies, and healthcare providers, we strengthen the capacity of communities and institutions to respond to GBV. Our programs involve training community leaders, police officers, and healthcare professionals to better recognize and address GBV cases. We also establish support networks to ensure that survivors are not left to cope alone.
  4. Engagement with Men and Boys: Tackling GBV requires the active involvement of both men and women. We work with men and boys to promote gender equality, challenge harmful gender stereotypes, and foster respect for women and girls. By engaging men and boys as allies in the fight against GBV, we aim to create lasting societal change that benefits everyone.

Success Stories

Our GBV programs have made a significant impact on many lives. Jennifer, a survivor of domestic violence, was able to find safety and support through our services. After receiving legal aid and counseling, she gained the confidence to take action against her abuser and now advocates for other women in her community who face similar challenges.

Ending Gender-Based Violence is a collective effort that requires the commitment and action of individuals, organizations, and society as a whole. At IPHR-Uganda, we are dedicated to reducing GBV, supporting survivors, and creating a society where everyone can live free from violence and discrimination. Our programs continue to make a positive impact, but we need your support to create a future where violence is no longer tolerated.
